Many of refugees´children living in the Czech republic want to take part in after-school activities, where they can develop their possible talent (e.g. drawing, music, theatre etc.). OPU is co-organizing a conference in EU Parliament called "Shaping migration strategies - patterns - policies" The Conference, taking place on 19 and 20 September 2007, is co-organized by EQUAL development partnerships from the Netherlands, Germany, Spain, the Czech Republic (Work in Prague project), Denmark, Belgium and Poland. The goal of the conference is to initiate a debate on migration in Europe from new perspectives and from different views. The Conference is taking place under the auspices of several members of the EU Parliament such as Jeanine Hennis-Plasschaert from ALDE, Ole Christensen from PES, Ewa Klamt from EPP-ED a Jean Lambert from the Greens. 300 participants are expected to attend the Conference including the Commissioner for Justice, Freedom and Security Franco Frattini.
OPU is against the new proposal of the Citizenship Act
Organization for Aid to Refugees is against the new proposal of the Citizenship Act. Ministry of Interior proposes to increase the number of conditions and make it more difficult for foreigners to obtain the Czech citizenship. On the other hand, the Interior Ministry insist on the idea of free administrative consideration to whom from the applicants fulfilling all the criteria will the Ministry grant the citizenship. This approach was repeatedly rejected by the Supreme Administrative Court. The Czech Republic is often critized for its too restrictive and unpredictable decision-making on citizenship claims which can make it difficult especially for highly skilled immigrants to settle permanently in the Czech Republic.
Příprava nezletilých cizinců bez doprovodu na samostatný život
Od poloviny června 2007 OPU realizuje projekt s názvem „Příprava nezletilých cizinců bez doprovodu na samostatný život“, podpořený grantem z Islandu, Lichtenštejnska a Norska v rámci Finančního mechanismu EHP a Norského finančního mechanismu prostřednictvím Nadace rozvoje občanské společnosti. Cílovou skupinou projektu jsou nezletilí cizinci, kteří se na území ČR nacházejí bez doprovodu svých rodičů či jiných zákonných zástupců a na základě soudního rozhodnutí byli svěřeni do péče ústavního zařízení MŠMT, konkr. „Zařízení pro děti – cizince“. Zaměření projektu a výběr jeho aktivit reaguje na aktuální potřeby nezletilých bez doprovodu při jejich integraci v ČR. Cílem projektu je rozšířit a zkvalitňit péči o tyto nezletilé cizince a vyplnit tak mezeru v systému péče o tuto zranitelnou skupinu osob. Tématicky se projekt zaměřuje na přípravu dětí a mladistvých na samostatný život poté, co se rozhodnou nebo budou muset ústavní zařízení opustit. Hlavními aktivitami projektu je poskytování bezplatné právní a sociální pomoci se zaměřením na individuální asistenci a materiální pomoc v individuálních případech.
