OPU enables short-term and long-term student internships for Czech speaking students of social work, interpretation, law and migration studies. We can only accept students who are fluent in spoken and written Czech language, as most of our tasks rely on verbal and written communication with Czech authorities. If you are interested, please see the information in Czech here: https://www.opu.cz/
OPU started helping refugees in Georgia after the conflict with Russia culminated in 2008. The war was not long but had a large impact especially in the regions of South Ossetia and Abkhazia where there were fights and lives were lost. Many were forced to leave their homes and find refuge in other parts of Georgia.
In 2012, OPU opened its center for refugees: Gvirilas Sakhli (Chamomile House) in Georgia, helping especially the elderly. The Chamomile House in the town of Khashuri was founded as a day care center for the elderly to meet and share their difficult past.
Previously, the center was mainly funded through its housing capacities : we set up a small hostel in a separate part of the house. The Hostel Gvirilas Sakhli (Chamomile House Hostel) has its own website.
Over the years, the house began needing repairs, and after the covid-19 pandemic we had to shut down our services. Now, we want to rebuild the center and give new strength to the elderly, and to the whole community. We want to modernize, add heating and beautify the center, and we need finances to do it. OPU is a membership association. Our mission to help refugees and foreigners in Czechia has remained unchanged, while we also gradually build up our members community. We wish to get our members community much more involved in our activities, to become an effective voice of foreigners in the Czech Republic.
That is we are accepting members as our advisory voices, especially from within our client communities. This is what we can offer our members :
